SCPTAC - Notice to Participants re Fraudulent Misrepresentation - Potential Scam - May 2026

IMPORTANT SCAM ALERT:

PHONE AND E-MAIL FRAUDULENT MISREPRESENTATION

Dear Participants of the Southern California Pipe Trades Trust Funds:

We are writing to notify you of recent attempts to defraud participants of the Southern California Pipe Trades Trust Funds that are being perpetuated by individuals falsely claiming to be affiliated with the Funds. Specifically, we have received reports of individuals falsely claiming to be representatives of the Fund Office contacting participants via phone and e-mail, allegedly to schedule Zoom meetings to discuss benefits. Certain of these individuals may be affiliated with American Income Life Insurance Company, which is in no way affiliated with the SCPTAC or any of the Funds.

As a reminder, the Fund Office will not contact you after regular business hours to discuss general benefit matters. If you receive an after-hours communication from someone claiming to be affiliated with the Fund Office, it may be a scam.

We believe the individuals perpetrating this scam are falsely claiming to be representatives of the Fund Office in order to induce participants to purchase unauthorized insurance products in direct violation of state and federal law. The Fund Office is working with its attorneys to notify the authorities and take appropriate legal action. In the meantime, if you receive a phone call, text message, e-mail, or other correspondence asking you to join a Zoom meeting to discuss benefits, do not share any personal information or open links to any webpages from the sender. Instead, we ask that you report all suspicious communications as spam and notify the Fund Office right away.

The Fund Office values your privacy, and we thank you for your attention and cooperation with this important matter. If you have any questions or concerns, or if you think you may be a victim of a phishing attempt, please contact the Fund Office immediately by calling (800) 595-7473 or emailing info@scptac.org.
